He was born on June 7 in Mexico City. Vicente Garibay Lijanova is a young filmmaker, currently a student in the Digital Cinema and Postproduction degree at Sae Institute México. His areas of interest are Directing, Writing, and Editing, he has taken different workshops at the CCC, ENAC, and SAE Institute, which have helped him deepen his knowledge.
His interest in cinema began at the age of twelve, where he learned the value of editing. Later he became interested in photography and acting, taking courses at CasAzul and EduMac, which helped him define his path as a filmmaker.
The subject of death has always been a dread to me. Fortunately, I have not lost anyone close, but I always feel that approach. I have the constant fear of leaving this world and not having accomplished enough in this life.
My grandmother is a 74-year-old woman, who due to her age is closer to this stage. I admire her peace on this matter. She enjoys her present with her family every day. I decided to contrast her day-to-day life with the experiences she has had with death. And to be able to tell two narrative lines that cover a positive way of seeing death. Thanking every day and not being afraid to leave this world.
The documentary had a process of eight months, from the first idea that came up to make a portrait of my grandmother. I explored the subject of the documentary for five months, I had extensive conversations and reflections on the different themes that came to my mind. Until I get to the theme of death. Unconsciously I suppressed it, but it came out. For two months I carried out camera tests and exploration of her spaces.
Until the university gave me the opportunity to shoot the short film for a week. I felt relaxed and grateful for the process. And I continued with the editing and post-production process.
I was working on it with a great sound team and the cinematographer did the color correction. The original music is composed by my sister, who created three different works that mark the process of life. Throughout the piano, she evokes emotions full of power. It was an intense work of thoughts that came to my mind for eight months.
