Ted Joseph Clarke is a student of Film Studies at De Montfort University in Leicester UK, and has created several short films as part of his degree as well as in his own time. He has written, produced and directed several films of his own, as well as had various roles in other independent productions across the midlands, and has also worked in advertising and sports videography.
"LIGHT" started out as essentially a proof of concept, an idea I'd concocted in order to test the limits of our visual capabilities by creating a short that stars a uniquely impossible antagonist to depict - a supernatural, mysterious orb of light, that interferes with a security guard's otherwise peaceful night shift. But the story quickly evolved over pre-production and even whilst shooting, gaining a life of its own as each element came together, and I'm now proud to say LIGHT is our most ambitious project yet, a film that I hope will entertain and connect with audiences, not only because of its intriguing premise and striking visuals, but also its thought-provoking story of twists and turns that keeps viewers constantly guessing, but that we hope is ultimately rewarding in its payoff. Working on the film whilst in my second year of University, I had the privilege of being able to enlist an extremely capable group of talented collaborators from across the UK to work on LIGHT, much larger than any project I'd directed previously, which allowed for an amazing creative atmosphere both on set and in meetings that gave way to a host of brilliant ideas, performances and effects that we strived to incorporate into every facet of the film. It's been my absolute pleasure to direct LIGHT, a project that started out small but has evolved massively from page to screen, and has helped me evolve also as a filmmaker, presenting a string of unique challenges that were a treat to solve, alongside more familiar issues like working without a budget.
