After graduating in Advertising & Media at Lindenwood University, St. Charles, MO, Lívia Ruas moved to New York, where she worked for two years in marketing. But when she realized that her love for storytelling was bigger, she decided to move to San Francisco, CA, where she attended the Academy of Art University and did her MFA focused on screenwriting. She worked with the legendary director Roger Corman. Then, in Los Angeles, she worked as an assistant and script reader at Benderspink and Zero Gravity.
After ten years in United States, Lívia returns to Brazil, where she already worked as a screenwriter at Casa de Cinema and Walper.Ruas Productions, in Porto Alegre; assistant director in a feature film and film analyst at Rede Globo, and now is making her debut as a director in the short film Leviticus 20:13 – The cure.
There are people who rather seek for approval of others, than to seek their own happiness. It may be due to prejudice, shame, or religion. These people suffer psychologically and even physically to live a life that is accepted by the society, because they measure that their personal pain will hurt less than the judging looks of family members, friends and the community around them. With this film, I want to show the point of view of those who wish to fit in and live a life of appearances, even if that brings them a great amount of suffering.
