Quan Phuong Thanh is a Moscow-based, Vietnamese filmmaker. In 2014, Thanh received a full scholarship from the Vietnamese government to attend the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. Her short films, which she’s written and directed herself, tell stories about women and have been screened at numerous international film festivals. These include: Moscow International Film Festival, International Film Festival VGIK, Hollywood Screenings Film Festival & Adana International Film Festival. In her own words, Thanh wants “to make film which is satisfying enough to delight younger audience members, and maybe win over a few older ones, too”.
Speaking as a young, female filmmaker, what’s pleased me the most about the project is how so many women came together throughout the making of the film.
This is a film I dedicate to my sister, to my mother or maybe to a woman like Lam that’s I have not yet met. This is a film for her, for Lam.
