Short Film Competition of the International realtime Festival for Contemporary Music
Wanted: We are looking for the best film/video for one of the following six pieces of music, which can be downloaded here: realtime-festival.de/der-wettbewerb
A jury of experts will present the award – endowed with a prize money of 30,000 Euros – at the realtime festival in Bremen, Germany in May 2020. Every cinematic approach is welcome: narrative, abstract, linear, experimental, animated, documental, or fictional, whether shot with professional equipment or on a smart phone. The award is given for the most convincing idea and visualisation of the music.
In addition to the main prize (Köster Award), there will be an audience and a newcomer award, so we specifically encourage young filmmakers to participate too.

Eine Fachjury vergibt im Rahmen des Festivals im Mai 2020 in Bremen den Hauptpreis in Höhe von 30.000 Euro für das beste Video/den besten Film. Egal ob narrativ, abstrakt, linear, experimentell, animiert, dokumentarisch oder fiktional, egal ob mit professionellem Equipment oder auf dem Smartphone gedreht, prämiert wird die überzeugendste Idee und visuelle Umsetzung der Musik.
Neben dem Hauptpreis (Köster Preis) wird es einen Publikums- und einen Nachwuchspreis geben, sodass speziell auch junge Filmemacher*innen herzlich zur Teilnahme eingeladen sind.

Film competition: The international Köster Award, endowed with 30,000 Euros prize money, will be awarded for the best visualisation / best short film / best music video for a piece of contemporary music. The award is part of the realtime festival, which will take place for the first time in 2020. Further information can be found under „Awards & Prizes“.
The realtime international festival for contemporary music takes places in Bremen, Germany from May 7th – May 10th 2020. It is going to be one of the biggest festivals for sound art/New Music in Northern Germany. The multi-faceted programme will include performances, concerts, poetry, dance and video at different cultural locations in the Hanseatic city of Bremen.
The festival theme 2020 is „Encounters“: Encounters in unusual concert locations, encounters with artists from this year‘s host country Poland, encounters between contemporary music, new compositions and new ways of staging them.
Poland is the host country of the first realtime international festival for contemporary music! For many years Bremen has been in close contact with the music scene of its neighbouring country, which has produced outstanding artists and ensembles with an international reputation over the last few years. Ensembles as well as solo artists from various artistic fields will be invited to the festival.
When?
The first realtime international festival for contemporary music takes places in Bremen, Germany from Thursday, May 7th until Sunday, May 10th 2020.
Where?
In Bremen! For four days, the Hanseatic city will be all about contemporary classical music.
Who?
Artists and ensembles from this year‘s host country Poland, from Germany and other countries.

Der mit 30.000 Euro dotierte internationale Köster-Preis für das beste Musikvideo / die beste visuelle Umsetzung / den besten Kurzfilm zu einem Stück der Neuen Musik ist Teil des realtime festivals, das 2020 zum ersten Mal stattfindet. Das realtime – internationales festival für neue musik findet vom 7.–10. Mai 2020 in Bremen als eines der größten Festivals für zeitgenössische Klangkunst in Norddeutschland statt. Ein vielseitiges und abwechslungsreiches Programm vereint dabei Performances, Konzerte, Poetry, Tanz und Video in unterschiedlichen Kulturstätten der Hansestadt Bremen.
Thema des Festivals 2020 ist „Begegnungen“:
Begegnungen an ungewöhnlichen Konzertorten, Begegnungen mit Künstler*innen des Gastlands Polen, Begegnungen zwischen neuer Musik, neuen Kompositionen und neuen Aufführungskonzepten.
Polen ist das Gastland des ersten realtime – internationales festival für neue musik! Seit Jahren steht Bremen in engem Austausch mit der Musikszene des Nachbarlandes, die in den vergangenen Jahren großartige Künstler*innen und Ensembles mit internationalem Renommee hervorgebracht hat. Zum Festival sind Ensembles und Solokünstler*innen der verschiedenen Sparten mit spannenden Programmen eingeladen.

REALTIME 2020 – International Festival for Contemporary Music proudly presents the Köster Award, endowed with 30,000 Euros prize money, which will be awarded for the first time for the best short film or best music video for a specific piece of contemporary music.
Contemporary music is interesting, enticing and new, and it demands a fresh artistic approach and new cinematic language, when it comes to its visualisation. The Köster Award is open to all filmmakers and artists who want to create moving images for a piece of contemporary music. Every type of visualisation is welcome: All formats and genres, from music video clip to narrative short film to animation or video art, all approaches, from concrete to abstract, linear or experimental, whether shot on a smart phone or with professional equipment. The amount of prize money does in no way have to reflect the cost of production, the aim of the award is simply to honour the best creative idea and most convincing artistic realisation.
Following awards will be given: The main prize endowed with 30.000 Euros (the winner will be chosen by a jury of experts), an audience award, and a newcomer award (for participants up to the age of 25).

REALTIME 2020 – Internationales Festival für Neue Musik verleiht erstmalig den Köster-Preis in Höhe von 30.000 € für den besten Kurzfilm oder das beste Musikvideo zu Neuer Musik.
Neue Musik ist spannend, ungewöhnlich und neuartig - und verlangt eine neue künstlerische Umsetzung und eigene Filmsprache. Dieser Filmpreis richtet sich an alle Film- und Kunstschaffenden, die Neue Musik in bewegte Bilder umsetzen möchten. Dabei ist jede Art der visuellen Umsetzung erwünscht: Alle Formen und Genres, von Videoclip über Kurzfilm bis zur Animation, egal ob narrativ, abstrakt, linear oder experimentell, ganz gleich ob mit Handy oder professionellem Equipment gedreht. Die Höhe des Preisgeldes muss keinesfalls die Produktionskosten widerspiegeln, es wird ausschließlich die beste kreative Idee und überzeugendste künstlerische Umsetzung prämiert.
Vergeben werden der Hauptpreis (30.000 Euro), ein Publikumspreis und ein Nachwuchspreis (bis 25 Jahre).
