Kirollos Atef is an emerging Egyptian filmmaker who began his cinematic journey at Qasr El Cinema, later training under renowned director Dr. Ali Badrakhan at Caliber Academy, and prepared a diploma in filmmaking with Arab Film School.
He gained hands-on experience as an assistant director in major TV series, including “El Ekhteyar 3” (dir. Peter Mimi), “Mata’am El Habaib” (dir. Essam Abdelhamid), and “80 Bako” (dir. Kawthar Younis). He also collaborated briefly with Sony.
Kirollos directed two films in the past three years:
• “Lost Piece” (2023), a short fiction film tackling female genital mutilation, which won 3rd place at the Women’s Film Festival, competing against 30 films.
• “The Burden of Years” (2025), a documentary portraying the lives of two elderly female artists who, despite being forgotten, continue to sing and share their memories well into their eighties.
Currently, he is pursuing self-education in directing through books and film studies, driven by a deep passion for storytelling and social issues.
