I AM a creator, storyteller, writer, mother, wife, and creative human - in that order. I recently discovered the symbol of my birthdate was the infinity symbol. This makes sense because I'm not done yet.
Kinya Shakur Travis began her journey in entertainment as an actress with the Henderson Davis Players at SCSU. She headed back to her city of origin, the concrete jungle of New York, determined to "make it there, if anywhere". In the 90s and early 2000s, Kinya utilized her Marketing/Business degrees. After marriage, two children, and an MFA in Creative Writing, Kinya found her voice in the fantasy/sci-fi world. She recalls the heroines of 80s television, and like most Black Americans with Indigenous/African roots, she yearned to see more diverse stories on the big and small screens. After over 20 years of professional acting and publishing a children's book, Kinya dived head-first into writing screenplays. Since then, she's earned accolades on Coverfly; associate produced the film, "Athazagora"; and is excited about the future as she branches into Executive Producing her first feature film.
