King Yaw Soon, born Tawau, Malaysia, began his creative journey in 2011 when he won the Malaysia Top 10 Young Artists Awards and received a full scholarship to study digital animation in a prestigious art school in the nation.
In 2013, his music video directorial debut "疯癫 FENG DIAN" won the Best Music Video in a national television competition. In 2015, he moved to USA as he was accepted into the B.A. Cinema program in San Francisco State University.
He wrote and directed his first documentary short, SOMETHING CARVED AND REAL in 2016. The film won the Campus MovieFest's National Best Picture Award for the 2016-2017 Season and was later chosen to represent the organization in the Cannes Court Métrage 2017.
In summer 2017, he was chosen to represent USA as one of the 24 filmmaker teams from around the world to compete in the Thailand International Destination Film Festival.
