Born in Tucson, Arizona of German Jewish descent, Eitan has a complex relationship with the Holocaust and US immigration. His grandfather was one of a lucky 240 Jewish children to escape to the US before 1942. Three of Eitan's four grandparents narrowly escaped the Holocaust as children. Their history lives on in his family name -- Penner, meaning bum (translated from German).
Kindertransport takes the educated viewer through several historical vignettes designed to eschew cultural expectations, ending with a concise exposition. The piece is meant to draw similarities between historical refugee immigration practices and contemporary ones.
