Originally from Harriman, New York, Kim moved to Round Rock, Texas when he was 10 years old and resided in the Austin Metropolitan area for several years before moving to Los Angeles. Originally wanting to be an actor at a young age, Kim played trumpet for various ensembles throughout middle school and high school, which led to stand-up comedy and filmmaking in college.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State University studying Electronic Media and Mass Communications, where he completed internships at HBO, Focus Features, Working Title Films, and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
