In life, there is a moment when, for the first time, we become independent. The rest of our life stretches out in front of us, directionless, and we have to shape our own path. Through spoken word poetry and contemporary dance, FLOAT tells the story of a young man at this moment in life.
Marooned on an empty London street, we follow a mute, lone dancer. As he leaps and twists, the familiar surroundings fall away, and we are taken on a journey down into a space designed to feel as dark and infinite as anxiety felt to Soo.
In this empty void, he wriggles against the forces of his mind until he is pulled to the ground; bound to it. That depression that binds you to your bed, dragging you into it, as if earth gapes and gravity is pulling on every ounce of your being.
Embracing the unknown, he rises toward an open sky before him. Wind rushes around him but he flows elegantly, letting it be. As he lets go, he is finally free.
