Keyhole Conversation
Peter Larsson’s Keyhole Conversation draws the eye down to the small gate of the camera. From there, through quivering and percussive forms of direct and stop-motion animation, the eye begins to experience the scale of an image anew. At times segueing into a flicker, but maintaining a charmed form of attention to the marks of pencils and the channels dredged in emulsion by a paintbrush, all to a curious soundtrack of pulses and bleeps.

Peter LARSSON (1979, Sweden) lives and works in Stockholm. He is an artist and animator that predominantly experiments with stop motion and cutout animation. His received a BA and MFA in fine art from the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm and studied at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver and Gotland University, Visby (Sweden). His stop motion-based practice is a hands-on process where the material is co-creator and becomes the body of severe formulated situations, emotions and states. His cinematic language is surreal and often refers to horror films, folk tales and abstract painting. Larsson’s first film Mannen som inte kom nånstans (2005) was nominated for Best Short Film at the Guldbagge Awards, and in 2016 his film Forgotten Reason was awarded Best Nordic Short at Nordisk Panorama in Malmö and has since been screened at film festivals worldwide. Lately, he has also been interested in finding new ways to show his animations, for example using animation and sculpture in installations, and projecting video for various musical performances. In addition to film, Larsson works with drawing, collage and painting. He runs a record label with a friend, which releases music on cassette tapes and publishes fanzines and artist books.
