Kenny Garner graduated Summa Cum Laude from Volunteer State Community College May 6th, 2023, with an Associate of Applied Science in Video Production. Kenny maintained a 3.9 GPA, was a President Ambassador for Vol State, a Peer Mentor, and a member of PTK Honor Society. Kenny G is a transplant to Nashville by way of Cincinnati, Ohio. He went to the School for the Creative & Performing Arts in Cincinnati where he was a visual art major. He moved to Nashville for music and had some success. Realizing that a career in music was coming to an end, he got back into acting in 2007. His first audition was for a Trisha Yearwood video directed by Trey Fanjoy. He was cast as a principal dancer. Since then, he has been in over 15 music videos from Taylor Swift to Josh Groban, 11 feature films, and 20 commercials.
In 2009 he decided to step behind the camera and was given the opportunity to produce a commercial for the Dorito’s Super Bowl contest. He gained confidence when he entered a contest for HBO & the Director’s Guild of America. If he had won, he would have spent a year in LA as a paid intern/director. He didn’t win but came close & the DGA emailed encouraging him to keep pursuing his dream.
Since then, he has directed over 24 productions for clients such as The Cupcake Collection, Aleta Myles, Grammy Nominated Song Writer Alton Lee Hood, Vanderbilt Human Resources & Divinity School, Inside Out Mobile Eco Wash, Captain D’s, Girl Scout Troop 1467, The Nashville Zoo, and Nashville Kung Fu. His short film Ashes to Ashes written by Wynn Reichert won Best Comedy in the 2014 East Nashville Film Festival. His second short film Are You Listening has been deemed a spiritual drama and was the official selection of the Great Lakes International Film Festival. It was nominated for Best Narrative Short and voted 3rd Runner Up in the Audience Choice Award out of 1500 films and won the award for Best Writer at the Smokey Mountain Film Festival November 2015. Over the years, his short films The Assumption, PINKED, and Self-Motivation have been in over 16 film festivals.
