Kayla Avitabile is a multi-media artist based in Greater Boston with a focus on video editing and production. She graduated from Tufts University with a BA in Film & Media Studies and American Studies where she grew her passion for the art of editing and telling stories, particularly those of women. Performing as a singer-songwriter since age 13, Kayla is uniquely interested in the relationship between music and media.
Kayla has filmed several hours of concert footage as well as edited live concerts, promotional material and ran livestreams for local music venue, ONCE Somerville. In addition, she is a three time Lehigh Valley Music Award Nominee and RCD Shapiro Thesis Award recipient for her paper "Whitewashing Zine & Scene Discourses: BIPOC Voices in Grunge and Riot Grrrl."
Beyond her efforts filming, composing and writing on music, Kayla is a working video editor and filmmaker. One of her favorite creative projects to date is a short film, "As It Was,” which follows college senior, Joyce, as she navigates the aftermath of a traumatic experience. This film has received multiple festival selections and awards including "Best Woman Short" and "Best Student Director (Female)."
Outside of work, Kayla enjoys spending time with friends and family (preferably over a good meal), and sitting down with her guitar to compose new music. You may spot her drinking cappuccinos and listening to Sleater Kinney.
