Screenplay: The Conduits
Logline: The Conduits are two wildly popular, fake online mediums, with foolproof results due to their excellent hacking skills and a desperate audience – but it is all just a slick front to hide what they really are: psychopathic predators.

Katy Chance: Potted Bio
I have been an editor, features writer, and former columnist (my ersatz TV column, Chance Comments, ran for nearly eight years) in print for 20 years. I wrote for radio for several years. I have also researched and scripted a documentary and written B-roll for an internet-streaming wildlife show.

I have a BA (cum laude) with majors in Linguistics and Psychology because I like words and psychopathy, probably in that order – which may explain why I have written a psychological thriller about articulate sociopaths.

The Conduits received a handful of 7’s from two evaluators from The Black List for its first draft. One commented that: “The most intriguing element of the script is its commentary on social media, obsession, and religion [to this I would add its commentary on racism in the US that allowed The Conduits to get away with it for so long]. Each of these pieces feels so tied together, especially in the current, fractured cultural world. The complexity in the discussion of what technology and social media has brought from a morality perspective is an interesting one.”

They added: “The amount of work that goes into executing the charade is both amazing and terrifying.” One evaluator said: “Mystery and suspense ebbs and flows throughout until the final conclusion, which finishes in an eerily satisfying way.”

After some judicious editing (and additing©, a new word), it has won 8 Best Thriller Screenplay awards, or equivalent, so far in 2022, most notably (IMO):
