Kat Silva is a California native with Arkansas roots. She currently resides in Reno, Nevada. Her film career began in Little Rock, AR in 2020 where she wrote, acted and directed in her first 48 Hour Film Festival film. "TIME WARP" which follows a woman named Bettina Lopez as she travels back in time to save someone she loves in the future. Kat’s first film combined traditional filmmaking with virtual reality.
Her second film, "THROUGH A CHILD’S EYES" is a short documentary and takes a close look at the impact of Covid-19 from a child's perspective. This film premiered at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival in 2021 and was an official selection of the Arkansas Shorts Film Festival in 2022.
Her third film, “BELLA MENTE” is a romantic comedy that explores the journey of a woman who has experienced loss and is searching for someone to share her life with. "Bella Mente" premiered at the Arkansas Shorts Film Festival in Jan 2022 and was screened at the Made in Arkansas Shorts Film Festival in May 2022.
Her most recent film, "BLINDFOLD" is a short psychological thriller starring WIFA actress Carmen Patterson and is set to premiere in Hot Springs, Arkansas summer of 2022 and will be screened at the Arkansas Shorts Film Festival in Jan 2023.
She is currently co-writing her next film, a sci-fi romantic comedy with veteran 48 hour filmmaker, Sam Ashcraft (RIP) This script, a sci-fi drama is finished and will be produced in the future.
Kat is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, alumni of the University of British Columbia and was one of the first graduates of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival's Documentary Boot Camp. She has taken film-making and directing programs through Low Key Arts in Hot Springs under the guidance of Jen Gerber, executive director of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival.
She served as a volunteer for 3 years at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival before joining (WIFA) Women in Film Arkansas with the encouragement of founding president Angela Vanzandt-Bumpass. She served on the WIFA Board of Directors for 2+ years and was WIFA’s film liaison to the East Initiative in Little Rock, AR where she mentored students interested in film and later served as a judge at the East Initiative Conference in 2021. She currently serves as an advisor for Women in Film Arkansas in internet and digital media technology.

Kat has worked with Karen Patillo, producer of "Classy Boss Beauticians” which is the first reality show in Arkansas, on their Shreveport, LA episodes as crew, photographer and later for their Netflix cover art. She was a contributing cinematographer and voice-over for “Barbrazella,” a 2021 Little Rock 48 Hour Film, has appeared as a background lawyer in Director David Martin-Porras’ 2021 feature film, “Danger in the Spotlight” also known as “Paralyzed by Fear,” recently appeared on Divorce Court (yet to be aired) and has crewed for seven other Arkansas films including Second Assistant Director to the youngest director to ever graduate from the Inception to Projection program, Alana Dunn, age 11 and Assistant Director of the 3 time award winning short, “Last Night” by Stephen Spanel.
She has attended many acting and improv workshops including the Actors Co-op in Little Rock, hosted by WIFA President Becky Bartlett and actor Jason Scott Morgan, acting and improv classes with Aranitra Chandler, CD from Atlanta, GA and on-going acting classes with Judy Bouley, CD from Los Angeles and South African actor and director Greg Kriek.

All Kat's films to date have been filmed on location in Arkansas.

Kat represents a very small but growing number of female hispanic indigenous directors and is committed to inclusion and diversity both on and off the set.
