Kasuba Mukuka is a socially conscious filmmaker born in Zambia and based in Los Angeles, California. She has a strong passion for women’s rights, diversity, equal representation, behind and in front of the camera, and telling universally relatable stories.
Prior to moving to the United States, Kasuba obtained her bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Zambia. Following that, she worked as part of the development team for an award-winning Zambian TV series,“Love Games”, which was part of the safe love campaign, supported by the United States
Agency for International Development. She then relocated to New York and studied a filmmaking program at the New York Film Academy. Thereafter, she freelanced as a producer for short films and worked on a number of independent films.
She then spent some time in Zambia where she produced the brand commercial for telecommunications company, Vodafone, for its Zambia launch, as well as a short inspirational documentary called “Will to Power” based around a young Zambian girl who earned a full ride scholarship to Harvard.
Subsequently, she returned to the US to pursue her masters degree at the University of Southern California and attained a Master of Fine Arts in Producing for Film, TV, and New Media from USC’s Peter Stark Producing Program. The Long Road Home is a fictionalized story amalgamated from true events and instances that have taken place in Zambia about a young Zambian woman’s escape from her tyrannical husband, without support from her community because of a culture of silence. The film addresses a topical issue that women from all over the world are facing - Gender Based Violence.
Additionally, Kasuba has hosted and sat on panels discussing diversity and women in film.
