Karolina Pawelczyk is a visual artist, director and performer. With this combination, she creates multilayered, performative, and narrative spatial installations using video, sculpture, sound, and the involvement of people (including the spectator). Her works analyze the paradoxes of modernity and the tension between the need to find new forms of political and ethical action (that would be appropriate to a technologically mediated world) and the inertia of our established and algorithmized thought patterns.
She is MFA graduate of the Studio of Spatial Activities of prof. Mirosław Bałka at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Graduate of Photography at the University of Arts in Poznań. She was part of non-degree program of the New Centre for Research and Practice (2020-22). In 2020-21 she was a co-creator of the interdisciplinary alliance Radicalzz.network focused on digital ecology and providing technological assistance in the name of protecting human rights and the environment. She is an collaborator with the Post Artistic Services Office - an alliance of politically and socially engaged art workers in Poland, whose aim is to support social and political movements with artistic activities and to strengthen various forms of activism.
Her works have been shown in the institutions such as Humboldt Forum in Berlin, Dresden State Art Collection (SKD), Zachęta National Art Gallery in Warsaw, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Jasna 10 – Społeczna Instytucja Kultury Krytyki Politycznej, in theaters: Komuna/Warszawa, Theatre Studio Warsaw, festivals: Short Waves Festival in Poznań, and as part of the residencies - UNESCO Creative Cities Network in Amarante (Portugal), among others.
