Karen: "as a nature enthusiast, I found a pressing need to try to understand the "light", and "dark". This compulsion came after witnessing the meanness of exploitation (as a "Witness for Non-violence") at Wisconsin's Northern boat landings, where white locals were pitted against Red. 'A civil war' over fishing rights, and ultimately over mineral resources tore lives apart (early 1990's). As a catharsis, from the witness of unfathomable inhumanity to 'Natives', I wrote folk songs to celebrate Life, and try to explain darkness. Many of these songs became the musical-foundation for Lady of the Rose--a Musical Odyssey."
Karen's studio partner, Merle Wolford, was a psychotherapist and 'medicine woman'. Both Karen & Merle were influenced by the Madonna, and traveled to Spain where her presence was strongly felt.
Karen: "My hope is that this musical will touch the hearts and minds of many... and be used as a catalyst for positive change for Earth, and all populations: People, Plant, Animals. It is my fondest wish that Lady of the Rose--a Musical Odyssey be performed at Earth celebrations on and off college campuses".
Lady of the Rose--a Musical Odyssey is not a traditional musical theatre piece. It begins with the Big Bang & travels up into the future. It dynamically crosses musical genres as it spans time. The Musical-Odyssey breathes with elements of nature (Sun, Stars, Earth, wind, fire and water) using special soundscape and space-age-effects.
Lady of the Rose--a Musical Odyssey delightfully engages the senses. Its sonic landscapes elicit imagination, and will be best experienced in a theater as a space-stage or film production. The fantastical story takes the audience on an explorative journey filled unforgettable music and images.
As a ‘fantasy-musical, “Lady of the Rose…” stealthily faces multiple contemporary issues—it was born out of the need for spiritual uplift. It is a unique/universal adventure—ultimately an epic "Who Am I" quest. For a more detailed BIO see Karen's website: www.musartproject.com
