I'm originally from Lucknow, also known as "Nawabon ka shehar", where I grew up and attended high school. My Lucknow background has helped me with my Hindi diction and clear speech. In New Delhi, I started acting in plays and public events, but I went to the University of Technology and studied computer science because our family didn't have a film background. Though I graduated, I never stopped writing and acting. During semester breaks, I took workshops that helped me gain a basic knowledge of the craft of writing and acting.
After graduation, I moved to Mumbai. In Mumbai, I wrote and acted in a number of short films. It was during this time that I realised that my craft had reached its limits because I had no formal training. One of my teachers recommended that I read the book "The Actors Art and Craft" by William Esper. I was very inspired and moved to New York where I completed his two-year full-time acting programme.
During my time at the William Esper Studio, I realised that good artists need extensive training. Travel. It's a big world. When you're exposed to other cultures, you learn to appreciate how different and how similar we humans are. Grow up. Live life. It seems simple, but it's really important. There is no substitute for experience
