Director Statement

Kachi's Odyssey is a deeply personal film born from the shadow of Nigeria's kidnapping epidemic. In 2021, my younger sister was abducted, a terrifying experience that, thankfully, ended with her escape. Yet, the trauma lingered. Then, in 2023, two of my cousins were abducted, highlighting the chilling reality that no one is immune. These personal experiences, coupled with the harrowing story of a survivor friend who shared his ordeal with me, fueled the fire to create this film.

Inspired by true events, Kachi's Odyssey delves into the psychological and emotional scars left by abduction. It's a story of resilience, survival, and the enduring human spirit.

According to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics’ Crime Experience and Security Perception Report, 2024:
2.23 million kidnapping incidents
63.5% in the North-West
8.6% of households in the North-West experienced kidnapping
N2.2tn paid as ransom
Average ransom: N2.67m

These statistics paint a grim picture of a nation grappling with a crisis that shatters families and communities. Kachi's Odyssey aims to shed light on this urgent issue, spark crucial conversations, and offer a glimmer of hope in the face of unimaginable adversity.
