Esmaeel Monsef, born in 1975 in Ardebil, northwestern Iran, is a graduate of the Behandish Cinema School of Tehran and founding member of the Association of Independent Iranian Filmmakers. He directed four short fiction films, one short documentary for Arte tv, and edited over forty shorts and features - mainly documentaries. His directing credits include UNDER THE COLORS which screened in Competition at Clermont Ferrand and at 12 other festivals (& bought by Arte) and OYAN, selected at Thessaloniki and awarded the Silver Gentian at Trento. He completed in March 2018 his first feature KOMUR, also selected in November 2017 at the Thessaloniki Agora Works in Progress. As an editor, Monsef completed the first fiction feature A MINOR LEAP DOWN (Hamed Rajabi) which premiered in Panorama at the 2015 Berlinale (Fipresci award).
