KISAN SATYAGRAHA - Uprisal of the Indian Farmer
Tens of thousands of Indian farmers began their sit-in protest in November 2020 on the borders of Delhi against three contentious farm laws brought by the Union government. They demanded the total repeal of the laws as they perceived them as leaning towards the corporatization of agriculture. Fighting many coercive measures to dismantle the agitation, the farmers continued their peaceful resistance with great patience and perseverance for over a year. The movement received global solidarity.
Finally, the government withdrew the laws, accepting the demands of the agitating farmers.
A battle is won, it seems. But the bigger war of achieving socioeconomic and environmental sustainability has to be won.
