CG (Gertrude Sigonda) is a storyteller and visionary filmmaker from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with a passion for showcasing the diverse narratives and cultures of the African continent, and a strong foundation in film education as well as practical experience.
In South Africa, at the renowned AFDA film school in Johannesburg is where she honed her skills. Thereafter, CG's journey in the world of filmmaking began as a 2nd Assistant Director on the set of 3 Zantel TV Commercials in early 2021. This opportunity allowed her to gain invaluable hands-on experience, working alongside industry professionals and learning the intricacies of commercial production.
She then transitioned to the role of Camera Assistant on the set of the groundbreaking Netflix series, "African Folktales Reimagined - Katope." This project, blending the richness of African folklore with modern storytelling techniques, further fueled her passion for capturing the essence of cultural heritage on screen.
Continually seeking growth and artistic development, CG is currently an aspiring film director, a freelance videographer and a proud member of the esteemed Nafasi Film Club (a platform in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania that provides filmmaking education and mentorship). She is actively participating in the vibrant filmmaking community, fostering connections with fellow creatives, and exchanging ideas that push the boundaries of storytelling.
In my films, I aim to explore diverse themes and shed light on underrepresented voices and perspectives. I want to use my films as a platform to address social issues, spark conversations, inspire positive change, entertain and inspire fellow creatives.
Ultimately, my goal as a young aspiring film director is to create films that leave a lasting impact on audiences; and to collaborate and learn from other filmmakers, mentors, and artists who share my passion for storytelling.
Through my films, I hope to leave a positive mark on the world, to inspire others to pursue their dreams, and to contribute to the art of cinema in a meaningful and profound way.
