KANE
KANE is an experimental film that examines the truthfulness of recreated realities- a first perhaps from the North Eastern region. Since the arrival of colonial anthropology, photography and the camera, indigenous societies have been subjects of great curiosity. Kane follows the journey of 2 women one from the West and the east as they dialogue truths and myths yet probing the audience to constantly question the camera that attempts to capture this truth. What then is the fine line between a recreated truth, a lived reality, our myths and legends? Shot in black and white with coloured footage and interspersed with personal archival material of the director that also seeks to address his trauma and anxiety, KANE forces the viewer to question their reality in a time where images have constantly reinforced our understanding of a truth. Wanphrang Diengdoh marries the fiction and nonfiction form effortlessly to arrive at this visually stunning masterpiece shot in Shillong and the UK. This is a series of film under the #khasinewwave arts movement.
