Shamanism is a belief system seen in primitive tribes, centered on shamans, who are thought to mediate between spirits and humans and have the power to heal the sick. While shamans lived in the mountains and camps in the past, they have now started to settle in the modern world. People find it strange that shamans settle in the modern world, and there is a perception that shamans cannot live in the modern world. In my documentary, I explain that there is no difference between ancient shamanism and shamanism in the modern world. What matters is not where the bodies are, but where the souls belong.

Director Statement

Shamanism is a belief and healing system that has existed since ancient times. Shamanism is a religion that has a deep respect for nature and works with natural forces. It has played an important role especially in Turkish steppe culture.

Ancient Turkic Shamanism is the traditional shamanic belief system of Turkic peoples in Central Asia. This belief system was shaped as a part of Turkish steppe culture and was widely practiced among Turkish peoples. Ancient Turkish Shamanism includes beliefs in nature spirits, the journey of the soul, talismans and spells. Shamans had an important role in society and performed functions such as healing, divination, and mediation, both spiritual and physical.

Modern shamanism, on the other hand, is an approach based on ancient shamanic traditions but adapted to the contemporary world. Modern shamanism may include traditional shamanic practices, rituals, and beliefs, but it also places room for personal experience, individual creativity, and contemporary philosophical understandings. In modern shamanism, shamanic practices often include elements such as spiritual journeys, trance states, healing work, and connecting with the natural world.

Shamanism is a belief system that exists in different cultures around the world and has its own unique characteristics in every society. Ancient Turkish Shamanism is the original shamanic tradition of the Turkic peoples, but today people interested in shamanic practices and shamanism can adopt traditions from different cultures or follow modern shamanistic approaches.
