Director Biography - Thomas von Eichhorn

Director Biography:
Thomas von Eichhorn (*1985) is a German writer, actor, producer, director, subtitler and marketing manager of indie short films. In his films he often depicts authentical, fragile characters that are confronted with the challenges, absurdities and complexities of the postmodern world. He loves being inspired by interesting, genuine people in real life.
From his childhood on he was emotionally drawn by films immerging audiences into another world. In 2006 he participated in a short film as an actor for the first time. Several other shorts in different functions were following over the years.
In 2007 he started studying Journalism in Eichstätt (Germany) and Valparaíso (Chile), graduating with a Diploma. As a journalist he worked for several journalistic media (ARTE, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, Bayerischer Rundfunk, T-Online etc.), learning how to tell non-fictional stories in an interesting and thrilling way – a qualification which enhanced his fictional storytelling a lot.
Besides, he participated in student and amateur theatre plays. In 2013 he started with improv theatre as a player and as an organizer and director. Today he participates in three improv groups, sometimes performing on stage.
Inspired by improv theatre in 2018 he started co-writing and producing the middle-length film COMPUTER LOVE about a woman seeking assistance by an AI to find the man of her life. In the end of 2019, he worked as a director for the first time, shooting the festival running short film JUST ANOTHER VICTIM about a young woman being visited by two strange men. He played the title role in the short trilogy THE LIBRARIAN. In 2020 he co-produced the festival running short film ANIMAL PSYCHOSIS about a man partly psychiatrist, partly detective trying to solve a strange case.
Together with his film mate, the director Mathias Götz, he keeps on creating film stories with their indie production company M PLUS M. Their cinematic experiments incorporate many facets, like improv movies or VR movies. After all, for him the dream of creating his own movie worlds has come true.

Director Statement

Director Statement “Just Another Victim”:
The story of this film is not completely fictional. It is based on a letter of our house administration to the residents warning of hustlers indicating they must change the smoke detectors in the flat. This is just the next chapter of ways how audacious criminals try to enter people’s flats.
Myself I had an awfully bad experience with a fake cop. Later I found out that he had been in a long sexual relationship with a woman, trying to cheat money out of her in a pathological way. And now, in these Corona times, there are even swindlers claiming they must disinfect your flat.
With this chamber play story, I want to warn potential victims in a humorous way, showing how awkward it would be for a lonely young woman being confronted with the appearance of two shady men in her apartment. How can you define whom you can trust?
So, here's the moral of my small story: Always ask cheaters for their ID!
