Director Statement

A key part of my experience as a trans woman is the joy that comes from bonding with others about the experience of womanhood. Sisterly bonds help to empower and validate my identity. Growing up with the world (understandably) thinking I was a boy, it was frustrating being excluded from "girl talk." Even conversations about vaginas or periods - not necessarily topics I can relate to personally - I still very much appreciate being included in. With my yearning to be more feminine, being included in stereotypically feminine small talk is more validating to me than cisgender women probably realize. I wanted to make an animated short film about this very phenomenon. Enter Vicky - a wisecracking, sentient vagina. She'll be there for us trans women and offer sisterhood when we need it. "Just Girl Stuff" is that story.
