Writer Biography - Haley Bella Seda

Haley Bella Seda is a recent graduate from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in Drama.
Although she's been singing since she could breathe, her passion for performing and writing began in Chicago, where she attended The Chicago High School for the Arts.
Songwriting is what came first (having been obsessed with Taylor Swift since the age of 6), but through her residency at Stonestreet Studios through NYU Tisch, she realized that there's so many stories, worlds, and characters that have been hidden within her throughout the years.
The first pilot concept she wrote was called "Happy Divorce!", a show about three children who are so glad their parents are separating, that they plan a huge party with all the family to celebrate; leading them all to eventually grow closer than they ever were before. She ended up writing and directing a sizzle reel for the pilot through Stonestreet Studios.
The second television pilot she wrote, "At The Karaoke Bar", was inspired by an Australian karaoke bar called Yaya's, where she went with fellow classmates from NYU Sydney.
Her most recent pilot, "Juniper's Playbook", is the most personal script she's written yet. Based on her love for the Kansas City Chiefs (which she was a fan of WAYYY before Taylor by the way!!), she uses her own family dynamics, friendships, and struggles as a young adult to craft a story that feels like it's picked straight from BookTok. It's her favorite piece of work she's written so far and hopes to make a trailer for it by the end of 2024.

Writer Statement

I am an introvert. To the bone. I love my friends more than anything and I would die for my family, but too much time with anybody outside of my social battery?? I can't. Impossible unless I'm in that sweet spot of tipsy but not yet drunk.
So what do I do when I'm forced to (such as at a birthday party or farewell party or any kind of party)? I notice!
I notice strangers around me, I notice the way other people talk or laugh or compliment someone, I notice their clothing. I take a mental note of funny phrases a stranger said or even something crude a stranger said. I love noticing, I love people.
I write songs from other peoples' perspectives, I write songs in the language of previous boyfriends or ex-friends or my siblings.
Writing is a way I explore lives outside of my own, yet, how I gain insight and knowledge of my own.
I wouldn't have written my second television pilot "At the Karaoke Bar" if I wasn't curious about why a seventy-year old man was singing classic 50s love songs, at a bar where every other person was between 18-25. I was the only one who went up to him and asked, and his response inspired me to write.
However, "Juniper's Playbook", is the first pilot I've written where I feel like it just blossomed outside of my need to understand where I am in my life right now. It's so much of who I am, but also so much of who I wish I could be, and that's another thing I love about writing.
Through it, I understand myself better, and I notice how easily I can make the changes I write in my scripts become real in my life! How cool!
