Director Biography - Maja M. Anderson

Maja Anderson is an MFA, Art, Design Thinking student at Redford University and this is a thesis project. Her work merges human-centered design and transformative pedagogy to address the pressing mental health challenges facing students today. her projects aim to foster emotional resilience and active learning through immersive, collaborative experiences. Drawing on theories of creativity by Amabile and Csikszentmihalyi, Anderson’s approach views creativity as a communal process, sparking student engagement, agency and motivation through self-determination and self-efficacy principles. She works as an instructor and program manager at Cornell University and works with undergraduate students.

Anderson’s MFA journey incorporates layered storytelling, blending interview footage with AI-generated art to create a powerful narrative about resilience in higher education. Her work reflects a nuanced fusion of art and pedagogy, informed by reflexive documentary techniques inspired by filmmakers like Ross McElwee. Through this lens she looks at both personal and collective experiences. This video distills the voices and visions of her collaborators, offering a meaningful contribution to the evolving landscape of student engagement and social emotional learning in higher education.
