Josette and me

The young filmmaker Jann wants to get to know Josette. She is 58 years older than him and quite interested in an encounter, but unfortunately without a camera. A film as a game between proximity and distance, the search for trust and the strength when people help each other.

Director Biography - Jann Kessler

Jann Kessler was born 1995 in Frauenfeld (CH) and started to make films in primary school. In 2012, with two friends, he founded the artists' collective Künstlerkollektiv Revolta. Still in high school, they directed and produced over twenty music videos, short films (fiction and documentary) and installations.
Kessler graduated from high school in 2014 and then made his first feature-length documentary called Multiple Schicksale – Vom Kampf um den eigenen Körper (Multiple Fates – about the struggle with one's own body), which was screened at the Solothurner Filmtage and had a Switzerland- and Germany wide theatrical release. After some projects as director of photography, he made the decision to take up film studies, with a main focus on directing, at écal in Lausanne (school of art and design).

Director Statement

How can I, a filmmaker, film an extremely interesting woman, that accepts me as a person but only without a camera? How can a film like this tell its story with the protagonist and not against her? This film is not about the answer to those questions but about the essay of an approach to them: Through the growing of a friendship, a deeper trust as well as through the realization of mutual dependence between the filmmaker and Josette.
