John Dee

The film follows the title character John Dee as he examines the arc of his life. When he was younger, John Dee was known for playing a significant role in Terrence Malick's award-winning film The Thin Red Line. John Dee's character Edward P. Train was responsible for the film's entire through-line of prose narration, an element that The Thin Red Line has been lauded for over the years. Following 9/11, he disappeared into the military to serve. John Dee recounts how the trauma he suffered as a boy contributed to his landing and then expanding his role in The Thin Red Line. John Dee's story is one of loss, trauma, failure, and, ultimately, redemption. He candidly recounts the life of tragedy, struggle, and diligence that led him to embrace jiu-jitsu as a lifestyle and find a path to healing.
