Yijie is documentary filmmaker from China. She has worked on documentary series about animals in zoos and wild animal protection in China. Animals are an important element in many of her past works. She also is interested in Kazak nomadic life and culture transformation, and will keep working on it. Her current project Jiabao & Jiaping is about her grandparents and explores the family history behind their complicated relationship.
Jiabao & Jiaping is a short documentary about the living of my grandparents. My grandmother is called Jiabao and my grandfather is called Jiaping. They have very different personalities and living habits, and the marriage did not make them adjust each other. After getting married for around fifty years, they decided to live apart since 2014. The film focuses on their current living status as two people living alone, and also explores their youth experiences, shaping of personalities, and family history through interviews and archives.
