I’m Jhaseem Lardizabal Pabalate. Graduated from Mapua University with a Bachelor’s Degree of BS Multimedia Arts and Sciences. I’m currently living in the Philippines.
I’m currently employed as a video editor for Philkotse (Automotive Company) which produce a car content review about the trending cars locally and internationally. I’m also a Cinematographer and Offline editor for Alivve Studios.
My long term goal is to be an award-winning cinematographer and international cinematographer that accepts projects that varies from commercial, narrative film, television series and music video.
I have a mamba mentality when it comes to cinematography. I always wanted to be a better version of me every project that I’m doing. Learning from my mistakes and avoid them next time. I also study extensively like watching in youtube, buying masterclasses and reading book or articles from ASC magazine and others. I always watch movies, series and anime. I also gather paintings and photographs in my social media account. I also have a dedicated Instagram account that follow cinematographers internationally and gather inspirations from paintings and photographs.
Being a cinematographer is a never ending learning career. I always wanted to be a professional cinematographer because I love achieving the director’s vision or translating the vision of the director into visuals. I love collaborating with other departments to achieve this vision like the production designer, costume designer, colorist, key grip, gaffer and 1st AC.
I want to be a cinematographer with a balance knowledge in technical skills and creative skills because I strongly believe that having a knowledge in technical skills and creative skills will be a foundation for the problem solving on set. I always wanted to have a diverse projects ranging from commercials, music video, narrative and television series.
My short term and long term goals are accepting projects internationally and becoming an ASC next to my name. I want to learn more about lighting, color grading, camera and lens fine tuning or detuning. I want to collaborate with camera brands and lenses to develop a product that will cater to my specific needs for a certain project. Lastly, to become an award-winning cinematographer. I also want to develop further my instinct as a cinematographer. This means in the aspect of choosing the right lighting method for a project, camera and lens, camera movement, focal length, t-stop and many more.
My philosophy in cinematography is I’m an adoptive cinematographer which means, I don’t want to have a distinct style. My execution with lighting, camera and lens selection, camera movement, composition, t-stop, filtration etc. Will always depend on the project that I’m doing. I also don’t like to complicate things if it’s not necessary. I also think as a gaffer, 1st AC and key grip especially during pre-production because not all the time they will be present during a recce or scout. I overly prep for a shoot because anything can happen. I’m always open if something happen like the weather change and other set problems. I always anticipate things.
