When I first began writing this film I wanted to explore the theme of domestic violence in Australia. I have witnessed violence from men in multiple ways towards women and it's a topic I'm still unpacking and learning about today.
The Film Jessy is an amplified expression of some of the themes that ran through my life as a teen, through relationships I've seen, exposure to alcohol and drugs, toxic masculinity and films and theatre that inspire me (such as Animal Kingdom and Snowtown).
We filmed all of Jessy over 2 days, which blows my mind considering how long it took to edit in post! However, I'm very proud of the result. I'm grateful for all the time and effort all the artists and collaborators put into my film and the donors who helped raised the funds for post production. I'm forever greatful!
