Director Statement

Quoting Jerry Butler’s 1969 hit “ Only the Strong Survive”:
“ I remember my first love affair.
Somehow or another the whole darn thing went wrong.”

I was still trying to overcome my attraction to the deadly sins of lust and pride while my partner embraced them.

I find myself agreeing with Nietzsche’s view of love as a lust for properties. As a cisgender male, my feeling of romantic love comes with an animalistic instinct to dominate and look at my partner as a piece of property needed to be guarded against other cisgender rivals. I’m ashamed of those emotions as they always bring suffering the more I suppress them.

The French have this wonderful term for fiction adapted from real-life personal events or characters or simply the id of the author: a roman à clef.

Consider this short film my « roman à clef » as I present this story of young lustful and doomed love. While I ran out of money for a thorough color correction, this is nonetheless a work that I am proud of.
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for your time!
