Aaron Beck is a film student currently studying at Minnesota State University Moorhead. When he isn’t coming up with bogus, convoluted, and crackpot ideas for his next project, you can often find him locked away in the Dungeon (or the editing lab, if you prefer.)
Making "Jazzy and Mumbo" was the most grueling and rewarding experiences I've had with any film up to this point. I remember when my group of high school friends passing through a small town saw a sign for a store called "Jazzy and Mumbo's Thrift Store" and thought to ourselves; "Who are these characters?" Two and a half years later in film school I brought those characters back to tell their story. I have this strange fascination with the history of film, and I often find myself creating films that pay homage to styles gone by. "Jazzy and Mumbo" pairs my love of parody films with the black and white world of Noir.
I am also in love with Jazz, so naturally finding music for this film was thrilling. Dr. Allen Carter of Minnesota State University Moorhead was kind in letting us use original pieces from his new CD.
We were fortunate enough to have our project selected for the Fall 2016 MSUM School of Media Arts and Design Juried Film and Animation Exhibition, where it won "Best Screenplay", "Best Production Design", "Best Ensemble Cast", and "Best in Show" at the event.
