Hooked on films since the age of 8, my influences were pretty mainstream – Star Wars, James Bond and Basil Rathbone’s portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. As my appreciation of cinema developed, so too did the style and genre of what I consumed – Greenaway, Lynch, Tarkovsky to name but a few. I wanted to be a part of this cinematic dreamland,
but growing up in the north of England in the 1980’s, the film industry felt a long way away.
The real journey began with a foundation course in art and design followed by a degree in film and TV – and like most graduates, London called. By this time I was already learning the ropes with a small production company where I did several jobs – runner, art dept assistant, editor, assistant director on music videos and commercials, but I knew that being a director was my goal.
Writing and directing a few short films, music videos and a couple of test commercials got me noticed - signing to a commercials company and being featured in Shots magazine new directors section. Over the next few years I built up my commercials reel and continued to write short scripts, getting some of them made and generally enjoying the ups and downs of being a director.
Expanding into corporate film and branded content with a focus on performance and comedy, my work has a strong drama style. Work for BP, The Royal Navy and the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office have won several industry awards and I continue to work across a broad production sector in the UK and abroad.
My ambition to keep telling stories along with a desire to create compelling drama means I'm involved in a continuing slate of short films alongside longer form drama and feature projects.
