Director Statement

In the heart of Delhi flows the once-mighty Yamuna River, now gasping for breath amidst the suffocating grip of pollution. ‘Jamna: The River Story’ aims to delve deep into the complex history of neglect and ignorance that has shrouded this sacred river, exploring how we, as a society, have turned a blind eye to its deterioration.

The river Yamuna, a silent witness to the rise and fall of civilizations, holds within its waters a historical and cultural relevance that transcends time. Through exploring the intricacies of the life of a boatman, we learn more about thousands of people who reside along the river bank. Their existence is intrinsically tied to the river, and we witness the devastating impact of its degradation on their livelihood.

Yet, ‘Jamna: The River Story’ is not just about highlighting the problems. We call on the audience to recognize their role in the river's decline and work towards reviving it. As a filmmaker, my intent is to take the viewers on a journey that not only captures the environmental crisis but also sparks the collective consciousness of the people of Delhi.

‘Jamna: The River Story’ acts as a call to action and implores the audience to reflect on their relationship with nature, urging them to actively participate in the restoration of a river that is not just a waterbody but a sacred entity.
