Jalil Nordman is film maker and researcher at the French Research Institute for Sustainable Development. His research focuses on the different dimensions of labour in Southern countries, on topics such as working conditions, skills, caste and gender discrimination and the consequences of migration on labour markets. His past regional focus has been North and West Africa, Madagascar, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and now India. Over the years, he has acquired solid field experience in these countries and set up research networks. In South India, he is currently co-director of the Observatory of Rural Dynamics and Inequalities (ODRIIS), where he is coordinating a population survey in the rural regions of Tamil Nadu.
He has begun directing audiovisual projects, with the aim of making his research accessible to a wide audience. After few short films on action research projects, he has recenty directed a scientific series and a feature-length documentary as writer-director.
