Jaelyn Ellis is a writer, director, and producer born and raised in South Carolina, based in NYC. She is committed to bringing stories to the screen that uplift underrepresented voices, decentering trauma and transcending narrow definitions of identity.
Her creative journey has led her to gravitate towards the coming-of-age genre, captivated by its ability to capture the often comedic yet all-too-real struggles of growing up. She strives for authenticity and depth, creating character-driven narratives that are introspective, tender, and emotionally resonant.
She is a 2022 recipient of the Future of Film is Female Grant and her films have premiered at over 20 festivals, including FrightFest, and NFFTY.
Jaelyn is a graduate of the Florida State University College of Motion Picture and has since worked on productions such as Ryan Murphy’s Feud, Law & Order, and upcoming independent feature The Dutchman.
