Director Statement

When I was in university, life brought the movie Delicatessen (1991) by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro into my path. Since then, I have always had the desire to work with unconventional characters, surreal stories, and a bit of dark comedy.

Jacob is an idea that had been on my mind for a long time; the result of this film is the evolution of those reflections and the desire to create something different after the confinement of a pandemic. It’s a story that invites us to look beyond each character. It’s a box of surprises, using fantasy to take us on a time-travel journey through captivating elements. My goal is always to trap the audience in worlds full of imagination and surprises.

We can discover kindness and goodness behind the characters of this film, even though they are marginalized figures who hide dark secrets and obsessive loves. The best experience was working with inexperienced actors because, besides having fun using their bodies to portray characters seemingly external to them, I was able, especially with the actor who played Jacob, to help him find Jacob’s motivations through his own personal experiences and convey them to captivate the audience.
