JUNO
A satiric look at the life experienced by a crew of bored astronauts on a mission to find intelligent life.
In 1974, two graduate dropouts are sent into space by the British Government, to search for intelligent life. The problem is, space exploration is actually really boring. The combination of monotonous tasks, working long hours and with the same personnel, takes its toll. This mundaneness leads the crew to deviate from their original orders, with interesting results.

I am a filmmaker based in Oxford, UK. I like to use my background in science to tell interesting stories. This usually takes the form of documentaries, but recently, I branched out into the realm of science fiction.
Alongside my work in film, I am a Sport Scientist by trade and work in the National Health Service (NHS).
This film is a satiric look at the life experienced by a crew of bored astronauts on a mission to find intelligent life.
Most films about space are fantastical and exciting, but in reality they would actually be quite boring and monotonous. I wanted to focus on these aspects, injecting some realism into the genre. I also used the British attempts at Space Exploration as a canvas for the film. If you look closely, there are lots of nuggets to be found.
Secondly, this film was made over lockdown in the United Kingdom and I wanted to see if I could not only make a science fiction film, but create one with the budget of £200. Because of the challenges and limitations I faced, I ended up wearing many hats, undertaking aspects of filmmaking that I was unfamiliar with, from the visual effects, all the way through to set and costume design.
I hope that this film makes you laugh and acts as an example, that even with little money, you can create science fiction films.
