Director Biography - Toben Seymour

I’m a director, animator, and puppeteer. I grew up in Wisconsin, and after film school at USC, began my directing career creating low budget music videos for Dim Mak records. I’ve since expanded into commercials, TV and film.  I’ve worked with The Jim Henson Company, Sesame Workshop, Jon Hamm, Susan Sarandon, Will.i.am, M.I.A, Moby, Little Wings, Aesop Rock, and Herman Dune. My work has screened at SXSW, Berlinale Talent Campus, Clermont-Ferrand, Slamdance, and Raindance. I co-wrote this film with my wife Yvonne Georgina Puig, who is a screenwriter of "Given" (2016), and author of the novel "A Wife of Noble Character" (2016). This is my first narrative short film submitted to festivals.

Director Statement

Children today are facing a very challenging and unstable world, but they hold a secret to navigating hardship - imagination. Imagination is healing. My intention in Joytown is to invite viewers to experience life through a child's eyes again and to remember what it was like when imagination ruled our worlds. This film is a journey into discovering the healing and creative joy that we knew when we were children.
