The main character is an attractive bachelor Flax-Karelka. Flax-Karelka is originally from the Pudozh County of the Olonets Province, Northern Russia.
Flax-Karelka travels a lot to the fairs of the Russian North. He is a successful guest of St. Petersburg and Moscow trade fairs and holds titles of honor abroad, in the Netherlands, Sweden and Finland. Once, in 1862, Flax-Karelka receives the highest award in Britain itself, a golden medal for his special qualities...

"Matku Puudogaspäi Pariižassah" (VOYAGE FROM PUDOZH TO PARIS) is an educational film in Karelian language (southern dialect) with subtitles (English, French, Russian). The story of the film is based on historical events that took place in the late of 19th - early of 20th centuries in the Northern Russia.

Karelian is spoken by about 100,000 people, mainly in the Republic of Karelia, Russia, where it has the status of a minority language.

The technique of the film is a stop-motion animation with the combination of hand-drawn and cutout animation.
All the drawings are made by 16-year old artist Serafima Smirnova.

The educational animation film in Karelian language "Matku Puudogaspäi Pariižassah" (Voyage from Pudozh to Paris) is created in the International Year of Indigenous Languages under support of the Civil Society Network for Indigenous Finno-Ugric Languages, Association of ethno-cultural centers and organizations for conservation of heritage “Echo” and Nordic Council of Ministers.
