Director Biography - Gertrude CG Sigonda

Gertrude Sigonda, also known as CG Sigonda - is a Tanzanian born; award-winning filmmaker, director, writer, and director of photography whose work is defined by authentic storytelling and striking visual narratives. In 2024, she was honored at the Nafasi Film Club Year End Review, receiving accolades for Best Narrative Short Film 2023, Best Director 2023, and Best One Minute Narrative Short Film.

Her bold and thought-provoking storytelling is showcased in short films such as Kidoti and Kimya Kimya. She has collaborated with global organizations like UN Women on the project Jirani, which was screened at the 2023 African Women in Media Conference in Rwanda, and she has contributed to Netflix’s Katope as a camera assistant.

CG’s dedication to amplifying African stories led to her selection as one of the top three recipients of the Salon Du Cinéma Au Féminin scholarship, where she is being mentored to produce her short film Sauti Za Mto (Voices in the River)—a gripping exploration of family dynamics.

With a passion for layered narratives and cultural representation, CG continues to carve her place as a visionary in African cinema, bringing powerful, and relatable stories to the screen.
