John Alan Hostetter was born in Gettysburg, PA. After earning degrees in English and Telecommunications from Michigan State University, he attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts School of Film and Television with Jim Jarmusch and Spike Lee. With a Masters degree, he worked as a temp at Paramount Pictures, working as a camera assistant before becoming a Gaffer and DP in independent film as well as a shop electric on big budget union movies and TV series. He has written several screenplays, a musical, poetry and song lyrics, two novels and two memoirs. His most recent film as a Director of Photography is “Sink The Alabama.”
