My name is Pedro Henrique Chaves, I'm 18 years old and film student in Brazil. Since I was very young, I demonstrated an interest in art and I was certain that I would work in this field. I started as an actor, starring plays, national commercials, short and feature films. However, as I experienced life in front of the cameras and got to know how a set works, I found out
my biggest passion: directing. And because of the love that involves being a director, I get really enchanted with the chance to coordinate the rhythm, the artistic and dramatic aspects of a story, just to make it well told. Studying filmmaking, doing workshops of cinematography and being part of direction courses, is how I discovered myself as a person who is looking forward to getting better on listening and observing the world around me. In my opinion, a good filmmaker has to let their clarity and discernment be shown on the big screen and that is what I was looking for while directing my two short films.
During an exchange program in Nanaimo, Canada I recorded my first ever film as a director. It was a fun and unique experience shooting “Look Around” as I got to showcase, for the first time, my artistic vision while directing. This short film won two awards in 2017: Los Angeles Film Awards- Honorable Mention: First Time Director; Award of Merit, Canada Shorts - Canadian & International Short Film Fest. In addition, “Look Around” was selected for the Red Dirt International Film Festival in 2018. Directing, editing and writing this movie inspired me to continue to seek my dream. Now I’m in the post- production, just about to finish, my second short film: Rocket.
I want to be a recognized filmmaker because I want to show the world the way I see life and get the opportunity to discuss and learn with different opinions. I let myself be inspired by the technique and geniality of Kubrick, mixed with the exaggeration and courage of Tarantino and also the silences of Scorsese.
