It’s More Than Just Some Trees
I’ve created a documentary highlighting the development of a grassroots movement that me and other students have led. My school district bought a 13.4 acre plot of land and plans on turning it into sports fields for students, however they got no student input. Over the past nine months I have been working to educate myself and other peers on the importance of this area. We have found out the possibilities this land holds and have been fighting for it ever since. My film shows climate activism, student voice, and determined innovative thinking.

I am a recent high school graduate with minor film experience. I am an environmental activist who is spearheading a local grassroots movement. In 2022 I founded the Philadelphia chapter of Fridays For Future (a global youth climate activism movement). With my deep involvement in many climate action movements I decided to use my senior project as an opportunity to make a documentary highlighting my efforts to save a 13.4 acre forest. For the past 9 months I have been standing up to my school board advocating for an opportunity that they have been trying to keep in the shadows. My film was made on a budget with an iphone, and occasional camera.
I think my film accurately depicts how my generation feels, and is an encouraging piece for people who want to get involved in movements bigger than themselves.
