Hey, I’m Ashleigh Ramírez and I’m the director and co-writer of It’ll Pass. I’ve been a Griffith Film student for three years, graduating in 2022. Along my time here I’ve production designed live band performances, written for a comedy web series, directed a short documentary and explored a variety of on-set roles. Film has been a love of mine for years with an emphasis on writing and directing. Without a doubt, this passion will continue, and many personal and career goals have been set up to resume the momentum of filmmaking. Explorations into theatre directing and writing as well as finding and creating projects to work with peers and new faces are both on the to do list. As a child of El Salvadorian immigrants, the importance of curiosity of others has been enforced in me. I’ve always been interested in traveling into the thought process of emotions and experience the day in the life of another’s experience. Entertainment of others and showcasing warmth and realism are the focused goals for the longevity of my career.
This was my first short film and I’m aware of how lucky I am to be this immensely proud of it. With it being quite a personal story, you can only imagine the level of thought and heart that went into it. It’ll Pass is a story about a girls experience with her toxic relationship and the techniques she’s uses to deny its reality. This a quite feminine perspective on relationships, especially ones in you’re early twenties. The idea of a fantasy world one may go to, in hopes of finding comfort, in the film’s case, a stand-up comedy routine, is used to emphasise the harshness yet beauty of reality. Films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Her and the show Fleabag were heavy inspirations in tone aimed for and the themes explored. Isolation due to a want is one I’m all too familiar with and after conversations with many peers, is one common to many. No matter intelligence, identity or career, we all hold onto things longer than we should. Pain caused or words sharpened lose weight in those created fantasy worlds. It’ll Pass aims to show that no matter how strong our grasp on the fantasy may be, reality will always find its way to shine through. As the director I’m proud of the end film; it’s a vibrant and animated experience with powerful performances and message. Whether you’ve been Eden, Cassie or even Kai, this film will aim to be true to your story.
